I am a master-licensed aesthetician and the founder of the Fernro Skin Science Institute, a medical aesthetics publishing company featuring nine books focused on advanced aesthetic education, training, and practice development.
From Ballet to Beauty: Shawna Akin Wiesner’s Journey to Skincare Excellence
My education has taken me around the world. In 2014, I had the honor of meeting Professor Des Fernandes in Cape Town, South Africa. I have completed specialized training in laser and light therapies under Dr. Patrick Bitters and studied medical needling with Professor Dr. Matthias Aust in Bonn, Germany. I also hold advanced certifications in aesthetics from Pastiche and the UCLA Cosmetic Chemistry Extension Program. Additionally, I am proud to be both NCEA Certified and a CIDESCO Skincare Diplomat.
In 2023, Fernro Publishing, based in London, released The Skin Science Warrior — a collaboration between several world-renowned physicians and myself. This project reflects our shared commitment to advancing transparency, honesty, and scientific integrity within the aesthetic industry.
Through my work, I aim to help individuals achieve healthy, youthful-looking skin by applying proven scientific principles grounded in decades of empirical research and clinical experience led by Dr. Des Fernandes and his esteemed colleagues.

In Greek mythology, Athena was the goddess of wisdom, warfare, and crafts. She was the daughter of Zeus, the king of the gods, and was born fully grown and armored from his forehead. Athena was often depicted with an owl, which symbolized wisdom, and a shield, spear, and helmet, which represented her role as a warrior. She was also associated with crafts, particularly weaving, and was said to have invented the plow, the flute, and the olive tree. Athena was highly respected among the gods and was seen as a protector of heroes and the city of Athens, which was named after her.
